Senate Bipartisan Legislative Director Workshop

Leadership and Negotiation Skill-Building Workshop for Senate Legislative Directors

about the workshop

“Tools for Next Level Leaders” by Scott Eblin; President, The Eblin Group, Inc.

Making the shift from technical expert to leader is a difficult but critical transition in any career. With the pressure and expectations coming from multiple directions, making that shift is particularly difficult on Capitol Hill. In his interactive presentation, “Tools for Next Level Leaders,” executive coach, author and leadership strategist Scott Eblin will share what he’s learned in helping successful people make the transition from expert to leader. Based on his book, The Next Level: What Insiders Know About Executive Success, Scott Eblin will present a straightforward model of leadership presence and practical, simple and applicable tools that you can use immediately to increase your effectiveness as a leader.

“Negotiating in the Political Context” by Merrick Hoben; Director, Consensus Building Institute; Rob Fersh; President, Convergence; Randy Brandt; Senior Fellow, Convergence

Legislative Directors negotiate every day – with their Members, with their own staff, other offices, constituency groups, and across the aisle. Many could benefit from a clear framework and practical skill set to gain meaningful results. This two hour hands-on workshop will strengthen your understanding of key negotiation steps, best practice, and useful strategies to improve your outcomes. We will also explore how specific negotiation approaches could improve the working environment in which Legislative staff operate.
