The vast majority of the democratic dialogue between constituents and Congress is conducted through constituent correspondence. In many offices, managing and responding to constituent correspondence represents 50% of office resources. Moreover, the workflow and communications practices, while utilizing modern technology, have largely remained unchanged for 40 years. This section offers up ideas for offices to consider in tackling this challenge. Although offices approach mail management differently depending on their Representative's/Senator's priorities, tenure in office, and electoral situation, every office should find something that can help them improve their mail operations.
